In recent years it has become clear how important the exchange of energy data is. That’s why the energy sector has jointly taken good steps since 2019, which has led to the establishment of the Market Facilitation Forum (MFF) and the Beheerder Afspraken Stelsel (BAS).
With the start of the MFF, we are moving from the current supervision, based on current legislation and agreements, to a new form of supervision, based on the upcoming energy legislation and on agreements in a system of agreements. This System of Agreements entered into force on 1 April 2022 and the first meetings of the MFF, in which market parties jointly make agreements about the exchange of energy data, have now taken place. MFF is therefore an association of which any party from the energy sector can become a member. With the aim of talking and making decisions.
Join?BAS (Beheerder Afsprakenstelsel B.V.) is responsible for the practical support of the MFF association. And also responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the agreements made within the MFF. Because both organizations are so closely intertwined, one name, one logo and one house style has been chosen: MFFBAS.
Sharing data is crucial to developing smart energy solutions. After all, we need information about where, how and when we use and generate our energy. Information that tells us where we can make the most profit.
The good news: the data is there. Bins full, and getting fuller. Because more and more people are using a smart meter that charts their energy consumption. That data is worth gold if we share it with each other.
That is why all parties in the energy market have supported a new initiative to make data sharing as efficient and transparent as possible. And to make it easier for energy consumers to decide for themselves which data they share.
This is how the MFF was born. We ensure that all data is linked together so that it can actually be used to make smarter use of energy.
We do this as an independent mediator by bringing together everyone who needs to be heard. From grid operator to comparison site, from energy supplier to consumer association, from price comparator to metering company.
Together we make clear agreements about which data we share and how we share it. We also agree on what we do not share, so that the privacy of every Dutch person remains protected.
But agreements are only worth something if everyone sticks to them. That is why we also help with compliance. By making information about what is and what is not allowed accessible.
